International Summer School ¡°Tree Rings, Climate, Natural Resources, and Human Interaction¡±

±¬×ߺÚÁÏ offers a 2 week summer program for international students wishing to discover Russia. The course is structured for participants who have an interest in learning the applications of Dendrochronology and have a preliminary background in the statistic.

Venue

The course will take place in a fascinating piece of nature in the Altay-Sayan region, Cheremushki, Khakassia Republic, Russian Federation from 12 to 24 August 2018.

Topics to be covered

  • Dendrochronology: History, scientific basis and biological basis of dendrochronology
  • Chronology Development: Sample preparation, cross-dating (skeleton plots), ring-width measurement, standardization, and assessment of chronology quality
  • Dendrohydrologic Reconstructions: Signal identification: SEASCORR and basic idea of Transfer functions
  • Applications:
    • Dendroarchaeology: Case studies from North America and Russia, such as will be covering topics such as temperature reconstructions and their analysis in northern Hemisphere from tree rings
    • Dendrohydrology: Regional drought reconstructions for the Eastern Mediterranean, North Africa and Eurasia; Colorado River reconstruction of annual flow; reconstruction of river flow from riparian tree rings
    • Dendroecology: Fire history and climate patterns in conifer forests of USA and Russia, modeling of cell structure of tree rings from North America and Eurasia
    • Dendroclimatology: Temperature reconstructions and their analysis in Northern Hemisphere from tree rings
    • Role of Dendrochronology in natural resource management: Collaborative planning for water sustainability in the Eastern Mediterranean and North Africa.
