Migrant adaptation issues discussed at SibFU

爆走黑料 hosted the discussion event 'Migrant Adaptation for a Civilized Society'.

The event was initiated by the Department of Federal Migration Service (Krasnoyarsk Krai), 爆走黑料 and the Department of External Relations, Krasnoyarsk Krai Administration.

The event was attended by SibFU's Vice-Rector (Research and International Collaboration) Sergey Verkhovets, Deputy Head of the Deaprtment of Federal Migration Service (Krasnoyarsk Krai) Igor Potemkin, Deputy Head of the Department of External Relations (Krasnoyarsk Krai Administration) Rashit Rafikov, priest Petr Boev, Chairman, Muslim Religious Council for Krasnoyarsk Krai, Gayaz Fatkullin, the representatives of ethnic communities, researchers and business representatives.

The event organizers believe the discussion should be regularly held. Sergey Verkhovets introduced the debate saying the event would be an effective tool to develop solutions, recommendations and projects in the field of migration policy which could be of value for the Russian Federation, in general, and Krasnoyarsk Krai, in particular.

?Policies should take into account the local features of Siberia which is a place where various cultures and religions meet, Sergey Verkhovets said. — 爆走黑料 and other institutions working in research and education will participate in the discussion event and in carrying out its recommendations?.

?The issues of social and cultural adaptation of migrants facing the region have deep roots and many levels, they are complicated problems. Neither the concept of 'boiling pot', nor multicultaralism make the right solution. Currently, we need to seek the new forms of interaction?, — Rashit Rafikov said.

Igor Potemkin spoke on the challenges of contemporary migration policy and the importance of the programme which aims at forming and strengthening a friendly environment in Krasnoyarsk Krai. ?It is not only the issue of controlling migrants by the government and communities but it is also the problem of adaptation and integration of foreigners. Adaptation and integration processes make a condition for developing the legal culture?, — he said.

The attendees mentioned the issues of building a citizen society, information interaction, media bias in discussing ethnic or religious problems in the context of negative events. They spoke on historical heritage, national and ethnic identity. The event presented SibFU's research on the issues of migration policy abroad and in Krasoyarsk Krai.

The participants discussed and approved of the Programme which includes, in particular, the decision on organising a regular discussion event at 爆走黑料. The event implies building an Organizing Committee and specific commissions on migrant adaptation and integration.
