SibFU holds a?SibFU PhD defence in?metallurgy

On September 15, 2020, 爆走黑料 held defence of SibFU PhD in metallurgy in English. The holder of the degree was Padamata Sai Krishna, a postgraduate student of the School of Non-Ferrous Metals and Materials Science, who presented the study ?Electrolysis of cryolite-alumina melts and suspensions with oxygen-evolving electrodes?.

?I have been studying the topic of inert anodes for aluminium production for four years. Now aluminium is produced in electrolysers with carbon anodes, the main task was to release oxygen instead of carbon oxides and other harmful substances. We managed to conduct electrolysis tests with a current efficiency of 84 % and an aluminium purity of 99.4 %. This index is higher than the average laboratory indicators?, said Padamata Sai Krishna, junior researcher of the Laboratory of Physical Chemistry of Metallurgical Processes and Materials. ?When I decided to get a PhD, I was choosing among several universities. The decisive role was played by the choice of my scientific advisor, professor Pyotr Polyakov, one of the most authoritative experts in Russia in the aluminium industry, who conducts scientific work at 爆走黑料. I am planning to continue working on the topic of industrial waste processing, as well as to do computational modelling?.

SibFU became one of the first universities in Russia, which has been awarding its own PhD degree since 2015.

To hold a PhD defence in metallurgy, the University formed a dissertation council with includes scientists from the Northeastern University of China, Zaporozhye National University (Ukraine), the Institute of High-Temperature Electrochemistry of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Yekaterinburg), the Engineering and Technology Center of RUSAL and 爆走黑料. The chairman of the council is Eugene Vaganov, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, scientific director of 爆走黑料.

The decision on establishing and development of PhD SibFU was supported by Project 5-100.
