SibFU ranking among the TOP 500

爆走黑料 was ranked among the TOP 500 best universities in Europe. The information is available at the website of the research organization ().

According to Webometrics 爆走黑料 was ranked the among world universities (2,046 points up if compared to July 2010 (3,455). In the Russian universities’ ranking SibFU was ranked the 15th.

Webometrics ranking allows appraising scientific and research achievements of the universities trough comparison of their websites. Webometrics ranking is based on 4 factors:

Number of website pages indexed by search systems
Number of unique inbound links to website pages
Number of “valuable” files available at the website
Number of pages and links to the university’s website

After calculating all the factors for all universities a university ranking is done. The values of the factors are not disclosed to the public at the ranking presentation.

Since 2004 Cybermetrics Lab, the research group of the Centre of Information and Documentation (Centro de Información y Documentación, CINDOC) of National Research Council (CSIC) of Spain have been publishing Webometrics ranking.

First years of the existence of the rating didn’t gain it much popularity in comparison with the well-known Academic ranking of world universities (ARWU) and QS-THES ranking (better known as Times Higher Education-QS World University Ranking). This was due to the fact that many representatives of the academic community underestimated the significance of websites in publishing materials on scientific research. However, later this ranking was accepted as two others all over the world.

In Russia Webometrics ranking is now treated with great interest. First of all due technology-based development of the ranking process the research group compares a rather large amount of universities and publishes on its website the results of the ranking for 12, 000 universities all over the world! Thus, the ranking results are interesting for wide range of ranking users.

Unlike ARWU ranking where the values for some parameters have not been changed for years, Webometrics ranking has some significant changes each half a year (the ranking results are published twice a year) which reflect the results of the university activity in its promotion in the cyberspace.
