Harmful emissions in petroleum engineering can be reduced and high energy costs can be decreased as a result of research at SFU

If the operational processes of the heat exchangers used in oil refineries are optimized, the quantity of their harmful emissions can be reduced and their high energy costs can be decreased. Lyudmila Kulagina, a Ph.D. student from the Department of Information Processing, 爆走黑料, has developed a new method for doing this by computing the parameters of optimal control for heat exchangers under constant operation. Design can thus be optimized at an early stage.
